Exhibition Program & Poster Design

Part performance event, durational installation, and social agitation, Reorient the Orient is renowned choreographer and performer Lionel Popkin’s response to the dubious history of interculturalism. Popkin draws from his nearly 30-year archive of dance-making. In REDCAT’s theater and gallery, dancers, videos, archival materials, invite audiences to make their way, choosing where to be and what to see.

Emphasizing Popkin's interest in architecture and archives, we designed an exhibition program that doubles as a map and poster utilizing the original floor plans for the Walt Disney Concert Hall, layering REDCATs various spaces as line forms of memory. We ask the question how can an exhibition identity echo decades of singular creative engagement with this institution?

The program intuitively unfolds, revealing more information about the exhibition, ultimately be coming a large poster. Identity assets orbit and were used across marketing platforms, most favorably at the REDCAT bar for a specialty cocktail stamp. The line form is a random path through the space, designed to encourage the viewers own experience across entry points, the lobby, gallery, theater and lounge.
